Another topic of the day – How to identify different writing styles

Write about the three most important people you’ve ever met

In this journey called life where we come across many varied kinds of people, some may stick with us till the end and some come into our lives for a limited time. The duration of the connection does not describe the depth of the relationship we have with a person. We might have met a person while commuting and we may have hit the chord deeply and we move in our directions after a while.

You can never predict which connection will stay for long but you can appreciate those that stuck a deep meaningful cord with your soul and make your life better. The three important people can include your parents, siblings, friends, roommates, neighbors, colleagues, the person you meet on your way to your home, or anyone who has introduced a turning point in your life.

We should all take time and acknowledge those people who play important roles in our lives and help in uplifting us in the most difficult situations. When you pen down the names of the people, make sure you let them know today if possible about how they have changed your life for the better.

In our busy lives, we seldom forget to properly eat, forget about sitting down and thinking about appreciating people in our life. Through these challenges, you will not only get a habit of daily writing, but you will also give time to reflecting and appreciating your own life.

How to identify different writing styles?

Every writer has a unique writing style. By writing style, we mean how you put down your thoughts for the reader, and what you convey to them. The writing style focuses on how you convey them. We will discuss different types of writing styles.

Types of Writing Styles

  • Descriptive

“My expectation from the neighbor was like the dwindling ray of sunset which looked afar and soon escaped to eternal dawn. Yet, she turned out to be the silver lining to my cloudy judgment.”

Descriptive style

Descriptive writing is getting into tiny details of the event, person, or place and describing it on a deeper level. It uses metaphors to give it a meaningful approach. It will help to show the readers how you see a place and how you feel there, you should use this style.

Below is an image – you can try and describe the details of the place and surroundings. Show us the place through your descriptive style of writing.

When writing an article, he goes on to describe the places he visited, and how he felt there and gets into tiny details about the people he met. Another example includes journal writing. I have added a post on daily journal writing. You can check that for more details.

  • Expository

This type of writing explains the concept and tries to impart data and fact-driven information to the readers. The focus is to impart knowledge and unlike the descriptive style of writing. It describes a procedure based on logical explanation and facts.

For example, A Science experiment, cannot contain stories of imagination, it has to include facts, logic, and research-driven information that is accurate and has sufficient references to prove the existence of that information. Another example includes newspaper articles or recipes.

  • Narrative

Writing a fictional novel is an example of narrative writing where the writer creates a story, creates characters inspired by real events or from imagination, drives a plot for the story, and adds an enticing climax to the story.

A very good example is fairy tales where the writer spins a new fairy tale character out of imagination, builds a plot, and forms a story. The plot plays a very significant role. That is what captures the attention of the readers and once the writer can take the reader into the imaginative realm of his creation, he has succeeded in conveying his craft impressively to the readers.

Novel
  • Persuasive

A book review or a product review is an appropriate example of this style of writing. When writers provide opinions on a particular book, they are trying to persuade you towards their reasons why they liked the book and why you should read it. If the reasons are convincing enough, the readers take the initiative to buy the book and read it.

The readers’ views may or may not align with that of the reviewer and there goes the strength in how successful the writer has been able to convincing the reader to buy the book. Another example is the advertisements used in marketing a product.
