Day 1 – Declutter Challenge – Organize your cupboard

Welcome to Day 1 of the 30-Day Declutter Challenge. The first step towards decluttering our home, life, and mind starts with our room. When we stay surrounded by chaos, our mind holds on to that and becomes chaos in a while. Have you ever thought about why we feel good after taking a bath? It is because it washes away all that has been cluttering our heads and body. It calms us and our minds.

When you start organizing things in your room, take a look at your cupboard. Yeah, right! There it is all overflowing with clothes we seldom wear or everything looks a mess. In the worst scenario, as you open the cupboard, the items fall over your face. Not something we would want, right?

In today’s challenge, let us start by organizing our cupboard. When I took this challenge, I moved out all the clothes, jewelry, cosmetics, and other items outside. You start with this too. Then take a hard look at your clothes.

  • Segregate the clothes into different categories.

First, segregate them into different types. For example – keep the pants away from the shirts. Divide all your clothes into the different categories – Pants, Shirts, Tops, Kurtis, Pajamas, Daily wear, Office wear, and you can add your group.

Once they are segregated into different types – the next step would be to check if you wear all the clothes that you own. This is going to be tough. I remember how I have kept a 5-year-old shirt that I loved long back and it’s become a memory now and does not even fit. I have not thrown it away but I have kept it separately where I can go back if needed. But I made out a different use of that. It decluttered my cupboard.

Press them all and create clean stacks inside your cupboard. Use hangers to separate those clothes that are your favorite. Think about the clothes if you want to keep all of them.

  • Make a section for accessories totally separate and easily accessible

Every stuff in your cupboard is important and needs your attention. There is a reason you bought them. Take a look at your accessories. Do you want them anymore? If not, remove them and make another use of them or give it to someone if possible. Keep only those that are important. Clean them and properly put them in the cupboard.

Those were the two things that you need to arrange to declutter your cupboard in your room. It seems only but it might take a lot of time to do it. Take it a day and do it.

  • If you have other items, give them a clean separate area

In case you have other items apart from clothes and accessories, give them a clean separate area and do not mix them all. So next time you look at your cupboard, your smile should get broader and your mind should get happier.

This task on day 1 of the challenge will give you immense peace of mind and bring about the clarity that was not there earlier. This will also bring to attention the amount of money you are spending on your clothes and accessories. It will help you understand whether you need anything new or it is all-sufficient.

With this Day 1 of the Declutter Challenge comes to an end. I hope that you will take the challenge and declutter your cupboard for good.
